We decided to visit Boutiquehotel Stadthalle for our short pre-Christmas stay in Vienna, Austria. This small hotel is located just a few tram stops from the city center. And what is the most impressive thing about the hotel… it is the world’s first hotel with zero-energy balance and definitely the most eco-friendly hotel we ever stayed at.
The hotel is conveniently located in a quiet part of the city, approximately 20 minutes walk to the heart of the town. If you don’t prefer to walk, you can find tram stop just around the corner, that will take you directly to the city. When arriving by plane, take the bus/train that will bring you to the Westbahnhof train station and from there it’s just a short 10 min walk to the hotel.
Small tip! The hotel offers so called “The Green Bonus” which means if you travel long distance by train, bike or any other eco-friendly transportation (train tickets from the airport do not count), you will receive a 10% discount on your stay.
As I have mentioned before the Boutique Hotel Stadthalle is the world’s first city hotel with a zero-energy balance! We were so excited that we were able to visit this eco-friendly hotel and to have the opportunity to learn about the philosophy of the hotel. Monika, sales & marketing manager of the hotel, took us on a hotel tour and explained everything from the way the hotel was restored to the concept of the owners to build a zero-energy balance hotel in the heart of Vienna.
The first thing, when you walk into the lobby, you will see a green wall covered with flowers. The hotel uses only renewable energy sources (solar panels, ground water heat pumps…) and the water that flushes the toilets is coming from their well. So, are you asking yourself what does this all mean? It means that in the course of a year they create the same amount of energy that it is required to run the hotel. And this is not all. The hotel also provides two power stations for their guests to plug in and recharge their electric cars – free of charge. Amazing, isn’t it?!
The hotel itself is divided into two parts; Passive House and the Main Building. They offer 79 individually designed and furnished rooms in different categories from standard, comfort to superior rooms and even junior suites. All rooms have en-suite shower and are equipped with a hair dryer, telephone, radio, satellite TV channels, as well as free WIFI.
We stayed in a Upcycling room, which refers to the repurposing of reusable objects (you can see what I mean in the pictures). The rooms are all decorated with everyday objects but in a different way. It gave us a few good ideas how to redecorate our home 🙂 One more interesting idea that we saw was that all rooms were equipped with different stickers on the walls to educate guest about resource saving solutions that they use.
Small tip! There is no minibar in the room because it uses a lot of energy but, you will find a large fridge at the reception filled with everything you desire.
Breakfast at Boutiquehotel Stadthalle is something you definitely can’t skip. The breakfast area had lovely views over the garden area and when the weather is nice, you can enjoy your breakfast directly at the garden. The breakfast itself was amazing, fresh and consisted of mainly healthy, organic food. But no worries, there were lots of variations that you could choose from (cheese, ham, different eggs, vegetables, cereal, fruit, yogurts, cakes, bread, nuts, jams… and gluten-free products) and they also offered a wide range of regional Austrian dishes. Of course, there was coffee, tea, soya milk, hot chocolate and fruit juices. Just the perfect way to start the day!
Why you should book…
Boutiquehotel Stadthalle was a totally different experience for us and we loved it! The hotel is fascinating, the decor in the rooms is unusual and innovating and the whole eco-friendly experience really makes you consider what we could change in our everyday life to make this world a bit better. A special thank you also goes to the staff members. They are friendly, knowledgeable and will be happy to help with recommendations about the city and surroundings. The whole team really makes an effort to welcome you and to make your stay at the hotel unforgettable.
We enjoyed our stay and would recommend Boutiquehotel Stadthalle to everyone who would like to experience the beautiful city of Vienna in a world’s first hotel with a zero-energy balance!
