Checking in: Les Cinq Djellabas Morocco
Les Cinq Djellabas Morocco
Les Cinq Djellabas is a perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. The hotel is set in the Palmerie around 35 minutes from the city of Marrakech and it offers pure relaxation among the cactuses and palm trees.
Palmerie is an area where you will find fancy five-star resorts, hotels and golf courses. Technically it is only a half hour drive from the city center, but it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. This place is perfect for a quiet time and to get away from all the craziness.
Les Cinq Djellabas is a boutique-style residence opened in 2009, which consists of only ten eco-friendly lodges set within the Moroccan Palmeraie wilderness. Les Cinq Djellabas was named after the traditional Moroccan robe worn throughout Morocco. The hotel is owned by a French entrepreneur Frederic Velissariou, who also owns one of the most famous Moroccan restaurants called Le Foundouk.
The hotel has an African vibe with high ceilings, warm earth colors and it is minimalistic decorated to fully blend in with the traditional buildings. The lodges are dotted around the grounds with an amazing backdrop courtesy of the Atlas Mountains. You will enjoy full privacy during your stay since the lodges are not too close to each other. The garden is beautiful and full of palm trees, banana plants, and olive trees. Pure relaxation!
The eco-lodges are beautifully designed by Thierry Isnardon to highlight contemporary design as well as traditional Moroccan craft. They are well positioned, a bit hidden within the hotel grounds between olive, banana and palm trees to ensure complete privacy. Our lodge was quite spacious with a small seating area, fireplace, walk-in shower, king-size bed and a private outdoor seating area. The design well complimented the rest of the hotel. Animal skins, fur cushions, terracotta walls, cone-shaped roof and of course traditional Moroccan artwork made the whole place authentic.
The main thing at Les Cinq Djellabas is to relax and enjoy yourself, but if you do get bored, there are plenty of activities that can be arranged. You can book a camel ride, go for a quad bike adventure, visit the Medina, have a spa treatment at the hotel or just swim at a large swimming pool located in the middle of the garden.
We enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the main restaurant every morning. But if you wish to dine in your room, by the pool or in the garden the friendly staff members will organize everything for you. The breakfast itself was traditional Moroccan with pancakes, fruit, yogurt, bread, and pastries. The only thing I was missing was an omelet that you had to order (pay!) extra.
The hotel also offers lunch and evening menus that you have to preorder but we didn’t try it because we went to the Medina every afternoon and had a bite there.
Les Cinq Djellabas is a lovely hotel if you want to get away for a few days and just relax. The Palmerie area is growing rapidly and therefore you will find many top resorts in this area. Les Cinq Djellabas has it all… privacy, nature, delicious food, lovely lodges and above all very good price.
