Riad Kniza Morocco
Riad Kniza is unbelievably beautiful boutique hotel located in the middle of the old Medina of Marrakech. This beautiful riad has remained in the Bouskri family since the 18th century and under the lead of Haj Mohamed Bouskri, it has been completely restored a few years ago. As one of the most famous antique dealers in Marrakech, he ensured that Riad Kniza keeps an authentic Moroccan atmosphere with real antiques for decoration.
Riad Kniza is located in the northwest corner of the Medina, near the old town’s gates called Bab Doukala. It is better to arrange a pick up so you don’t get lost in the small streets that lead to the Riad. The location is just perfect for exploring the local life, authentic food market and of course Jemaa El Fna. A twenty-minute walk will allow you to explore Marrakech’s modern quarter Gueliz with its charming Jardins Majorelle.
As mentioned before Riad Kniza was completely restored by Haj Mohamed Bouskri using traditional materials to recreate an authentic Moroccan experience. Haj Mohamed has a very interesting past. Not only is he well known an antique dealer, he has also been a professional guide for the past 34 years and has shown the best of Marrakech to many VIPs and celebrities including former US Presidents and international movie stars including Brad Pit, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Aniston. You can find many pictures hanging on the wall where he is photographed with celebrities.
Riad Kniza is a perfect Moroccan paradise from the moment you step through the door. It’s like you are in a fairytale. The Riad has several salons on the main floor where you can relax and enjoy the peace. There is also a small library where you can drink your tea and read a book. Riad Kniza has a beautiful indoor pool in an open-air courtyard with a small spa where you can enjoy a traditional hammam treatment. We booked the treatment the moment we arrived and we can not recommend it enough. It was a wonderful experience. If you wish to enjoy the view over the rooftops be sure to visit the rooftop terrace area where you can enjoy your meal and catch some sun and the breezes that blow above the alleyways and streets of Marrakech.
Riad Kniza is a small private hotel with only eleven rooms, so you’ll hardly see any other guests. We stayed in a gorgeous Senior Suite with king size bed, lovely bathroom with bathtub, spacious living room with sitting area and fireplace. Room was beautifully decorated with fine furnishings, rich fabrics, ornamental Moroccan lamps, antiques, authentic artworks and lots of decors. It was spacious, comfortable and classy in every detail.
You have the option to choose where you would like your breakfast and dinner to be served. So, we had our breakfast on the roof terrace and we enjoyed it very much. Breakfast was rich with cereals, an assortment of bread, fruit, yogurt, pancakes, Moroccan pastries and egg omelets. The freshly squeezed orange juice was delicious. Riad Kniza also offers dinner service, either in one of the lounges downstairs or on the rooftop and the food is more than delicious. If you are not staying here, we would definitely recommend you to book at least a dinner at Riad Kniza. For starter go for the assortment of Moroccan salads, then try one of their signature dishes lamb tajine with figs, prunes, and Walnuts, chicken tajine with lemon and olives or royal lamb couscous with vegetables, and for the desert, you have to try Johara (cream pastilla with almonds and caramel).
Riad Kniza is a perfect place to stay at while you are visiting Marrakech. Its location could not be better to explore the Medina as well as modern Gueliz. Riad Kniza is a beautiful gem in the middle of the busy streets of the old town. The Riad itself amazing with fairytale rooms, great spa facilities, and incredible cuisine. The family is already working on a new project just outside the Riad itself – a museum of traditional Moroccan textiles, jewelry, and crafts with a small boutique. Riad Kniza is one of the top rated places to stay in Marrakech and we would warmly recommend it.
