Sailing in Croatia
With its wild coastal backdrop, beautiful islands and clear blue waters, the Croatian coast offers one of the most compelling seascapes in Europe. If you are considering a sailing trip to Croatia here is what you need to know.
Croatia has more than 2000 km of ruggedly beautiful Adriatic coast. Along with this magnificent stretch, you will find ancient Roman remains, small sheltered harbors, cute little villages and breathtaking landscape everywhere you look.
You will find more than 1000 islands, some inhabited and some not, beautiful beaches, secluded villages and famous party towns. Everything you desire in a combination with balmy summer climate makes Croatia one of the most popular sailing destinations in Europe.
Where should you go?
The most popular routes are the southern Dalmatian islands with round-trips from Split or Dubrovnik. Popular stops include the island of Hvar and Split.
At about 80km long the island of Hvar is the longest in the Dalmatian coast. It has cute little streets, packed with restaurants and bars, lovely beaches, secluded coves and rugged mountains with vineyards and fields of lavender.
The island of Vis is a pearl among Croatian islands, left untouched and cut off from tourists due to military activity until the early 1990s. It has a rich history, cultural heritage, and natural beauties.
When should you go?
High summer in Croatia is from June until the end of August and the average temperatures are around 25–32°C. But be aware that in the summer months Croatia is very busy with tourists coming from all over the world. The sailing season runs from May to the end of September and you can still have beautiful weather, plus the towns are less crowdy.
Great weather, beautiful sea, lovely towns, deserted islands, amazing nightlife, stunning national parks, friendly people, and delicious seafood… Could you ask for more? The Dalmatian Coast has it all. And without a doubt, the best way to enjoy and experience it all is on the deck of a sailing boat.
