Location
Kuramathi Maldives is located 56 kilometers west of Male International Airport. The island is set in Rasdhoo Atoll. Transfer to Kuramathi is arranged either via seaplane or by speedboat. If you are traveling by seaplane, airport hosts will greet you upon arrival, check you in for your seaplane, and escort you to the terminal with a dedicated lounge for you to relax in whilst waiting for your flight. Refreshments and wifi are available. The seaplane ride takes about 20 minutes and offers an unforgettable bird’s eye view of the stunning atolls below. For everyone traveling by speedboat, airport representatives will direct you to the boat as soon as it’s ready to depart. Boat transfers take approximately 90 minutes and run twice daily at set times.
Resort
Kuramathi island is about 1.8km long. Guest villas are spread around lush gardens, facing secluded areas of long beaches or placed over water. Many areas of the island remain untouched, inviting guests to stroll along deserted beaches or through natural vegetation. The island has numerous dining experiences and bars to choose from, a superb spa, medical center with Hyperbaric Chamber, aqua sports, diving facilities, eco-center, kids club, three swimming pools, fully equipped gym, and tennis court.
Accommodation
Kuramathi offers an option for everyone, ranging from Beach Villas to over-water villas. All villas feature a king-sized bed, en suite bathroom with bathtub and shower, air conditioning, fan, hairdryer, bath and beach towels, bathrobes, bathroom amenities, minibar, in-room safe, coffee/tea making facilities, TV with cable, and sundecks with sun loungers.
We had the privilege to stay in a Deluxe Water Villa with spectacular views. Water villas are set in the middle of the vast turquoise lagoon and have an open deck with steps that lead down to amazing azure waters. The spacious bathroom offers a freestanding bath and a rainfall shower.
Dining
In addition to the three main international buffet restaurants that serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Kuramathi has nine à la carte restaurants offering a range of cuisine to suit all tastes. There are also six bars around the island where you can drink a cocktail or two. Depending on your mood, you can listen to the sweet sounds of the resident band, watch a movie in an open-air cinema or just enjoy a relaxing evening.
Depending on which side of the island you are staying on, you can choose to dine at Haruge, Malaafaiy, or Farivalhu. These three restaurants are located in different parts of the island and offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets. Breakfast is continental with a wide selection of cereal, fresh pastries and bread, fresh fruits, juices, and a live cooking station offering eggs, waffles and pancakes prepared to your liking. Lunch is a light affair featuring a variety of salads and sandwiches, whilst themed buffets from all around the world are offered for dinner.
Palm Restaurant offers a diverse collection of interesting culinary delights from the Mediterranean shores. Here you can enjoy island-grown salads, antipasti, pasta, traditional Italian pizza with crispy thin crusts, and homemade ice cream featuring both tropical and classical flavors.
Island Barbeque Restaurant is set right on the beach with views out to the sea. This chic restaurant serves charcoal-grilled meat, flambé dishes, and a selection of island-grown organic greens. High-quality meat is cooked to your desires, complemented with traditional barbeque side dishes and matured fine wines. The food is simply delicious!
Activities
Kuramathi offers a variety of activities and excursions like Big Game Fishing, Island Hopping, and Semi Submarine. You can enjoy marine life excursions like Snorkel Safari, Turtle Reef Snorkel, and even private snorkeling lessons. If you wish to just enjoy the island you can also have a great snorkeling experience at the in-house reef. They also have special activities designed just for kids, teenagers, and young adults.
