InterContinental Mauritius Resort Balaclava Fort
Set in the deep blue waters of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius feels like a small piece of paradise on Earth. The island has it all… excellent white-sand beaches, breathtaking natural beauty, tropical climate and some of the best resorts in the world.
InterContinental Mauritius is a stunning five-star hotel located on the West Coast of the island. The hotel is positioned directly on the white-sand beach overlooking the Bay of Balaclava. It has amazing restaurants, beautiful rooms and offers plenty activities for children and adults.
Location
The hotel is located north of the capital Port Louis, on one of the most stunning parts of the island, with just 15-minute drive from the main tourist region of Grand Baie and a 50-minute drive from Mauritius International Airport. Located on the sparkling north-western coastline, InterContinental Mauritius Resort Balaclava Fort is the perfect place from which to explore the island’s attractions.
Hotel
InterContinental Mauritius Resort Balaclava Fort enjoys a spectacular natural setting. It is surrounded by gardens of native trees and flowers, with spectacular views of the Indian Ocean. With idyllic coastline, sparkling blue seas and a backdrop of lush mountain peaks it is the ideal setting for a tropical vacation.
The hotel offers five restaurants, fitness, spa with wellness treatments, water activities, meeting facilities and they help you plan a perfect wedding day.
Accommodation
The rooms at the InterContinental Mauritius are all facing the ocean and are furnished with dark-wood furniture, contemporary décor, and deluxe amenities. There are four different room types to choose from, each containing state-of-the-art in-room technology, a luxurious bathroom with TV, deep stone bathtub and shower, a private balcony or terrace and sleek, modern interiors.
Amenities
42-inch TV with international satellite channels
Separate stone bathtub and walk-in rain shower
Bathrobes and slippers
Iron and ironing board
Private balcony or terrace
Free WIFI access throughout the resort
Tea/coffee-making facilities
I stayed at the Deluxe Terrace Jacuzzi Ocean View Room which was perfect for couples seeking extra romance. The room was beautifully furnished in a chic, contemporary style with a private balcony. It had a large closet with safety deposit box, small working area, comfortable king-size bed and living area with sofa and table. The spacious marble bathroom was perfectly designed with walk-in shower, bathtub, two sinks and a toilet. There was also a private terrace with Jacuzzi and two sun loungers and a shower.
Dining
The resort has five à la carte restaurants and two bars. My suggestion is to try a different restaurant every evening. For an intimate dining experience in a romantic setting, I would recommend Asian-fusion restaurant called the Noble House. If you are looking for authentic Mauritian cuisine, you should visit a restaurant called Segala. Here you will find an introduction to Mauritian culture through authentic dishes, drinks, and traditional dance performances. The focus here is on fresh seasonal ingredients, with exotic spices and local recipes.
The hotel’s signature restaurant is called Veda and here you can enjoy Indian food. The diverse regions of India are represented by a team of eight chefs, each with their own specialty, using traditional ingredients and contemporary techniques for a truly modern interpretation of classic dishes. Senso is an international buffet restaurant where they serve breakfast each morning and you can experience a different themed buffet every night. You can enjoy Flavours of India, A Taste of Asia, A Road Through Italy, Authentic Mauritian night, European or Barbecue dinner. And last but not least the hotel also has its own beach bar called Sugar Cane. This chic open-air bar is located by the resort’s main pool, offering breathtaking views over Balaclava Bay. You can order light meals or just enjoy the view with a cocktail in your hand.
Spa and Wellness
InterContinental Mauritius has its own Yuj Spa facilities where they offer more than 50 treatments and therapies. The spa has 7 private rooms where you can enjoy massages from around the world. You can choose from modern beauty therapies to ancient Ayurvedic rituals or spend an afternoon pampering yourself in a hammam sauna or beauty salon. There is also a modern fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment and personal trainers. If you wish to start your morning with a Yoga session then head to the Sugar Island Deck at 07:45 am (from Tuesday to Sunday), where Yoga Instructor Sagar Panwar will show you the art of Ashtanga Yoga.
Activities
The resort offers plenty activities for children and adults. You can visit the Boat House where you can rent water sports for kayaking, snorkeling, sailing and surfing, and they organize a number of trips around the lagoon. They can organize Big-game fishing, Dolphin watching or a full day catamaran cruise. You can play beach volleyball, table tennis, beach soccer or just enjoy your time by the pool. The resort features two stunning infinity pools, both with panoramic views of Balaclava Bay.
