Michelin Dining at Ikarus Salzburg
Ikarus restaurant is located at Hangar-7 in Salzburg Airport and has an incredible setting as a backdrop. Hangar-7 is a unique building which houses the historical Flying Bulls aircraft fleet and a collection of Formula 1 race cars. It also offers space for numerous art exhibitions, two bars, an outdoor lounge, Carpe Diem Lounge-Café and famous Ikarus restaurant. Hangar-7 is a meeting point for art lovers, hedonists and a perfect place for various events.
The idea started long ago in 2003 when Eckart Witzigmann, Chef of the Century and patron of Restaurant Ikarus, implemented the concept together with Executive Chef Roland Trettl. Since January 2014, the Ikarus Concept has been continued under the patronage of Eckart Witzigmann and guidance of Martin Klein, who for many years was the partner and Chef de Cuisine of former Executive Chef Roland Trettl.
The concept is to have a different top chef each month. It doesn‘t matter which continent or country they come from, whether it‘s the USA, South Africa or Japan. Or whether they serve traditional, fusion or molecular cuisine. What matters most is the variety. And, of course, the high quality of the dishes.
For the chefs of Restaurant Ikarus, the guest chef concept means adapting to a new menu, a new top chef and a new philosophy each and every month.
I had the pleasure to dine at Ikarus in March 2017 when they hosted no less than four guest chefs with 7 Michelin stars altogether. Anyone taking a journey through the haute cuisine of Vienna will not miss these four gentlemen: Paul Ivic from Restaurant Tian, Heinz Reitbauer of Steirereck, Markus Mraz of Mraz und Sohn and Silvio Nickol fromPalais Coburg. Each of them has influenced and continues to influence Austrian cuisine with their own distinct signature.
If you wish to experience four luminaries cooking together in a single kitchen, then hurry up. You have the chance till the end of March 2017, when ‘The Best of Vienna’ are working their magic at Restaurant Ikarus in Salzburg.
