Perfume Making in Singapore
Perfume making in Singapore… how amazing is this? I was really excited for this workshop and could not wait for this day to come. So, after a few lovely days in Singapore, it was finally the day that we were going to make our perfumes! Yay!
We headed to the Je T’aime Perfumery where we met Prachi Saini, the owner of the company. She was very friendly and explained to us the varied steps involved in perfumery, from understanding different groups of accords to getting them attuned to our own sense of smell. Then we started perfume workshop for beginners.
Procedure
First, we took the “Perfume Personality Quiz” to find out which perfume notes would fit the best to our personality and then we started the procedure. On the table, we had the cabinet filled with ampules of pure fragrance oils of five main groups: Floral, Woody, Citrus, Fresh and Oriental. We experimented a bit and picked out our favorite smells. We had three trial perfume blanks, to create the ultimate perfume we wanted. It took us a while to smell and test all the different accords, but it was worth it!
Don’t give up đŸ™‚ Maybe your first creation might not be the best, but you can work on it again and again until you find the perfect one.
If you are not that persistent, Prachi also has another much easier option for making your own perfume… She had these separate boxes of pre-mixed oils, which will give about 90% success rate. So, you can’t go wrong here đŸ™‚
But we wanted a bit of a challenge so, after almost 4 hours, we finally decided on the sample we wanted and our last step was to convert this 10ml sample into the 75ml bottle.
Original Orchids of Singapore
Prachi also gave us her new perfume brand called “Original Orchids of Singapore”, which she will be launching soon.
Singapore had 226 native orchids before humans destroy the environment for them. Now only 80 have survived and many of them are endangered. Prachi and her team were able to secure oils of 50 of those precious Orchids and they are available at her workshop for everyone to try.
Conclusion
So, if you are looking for a special and unforgettable experience while in Singapore then we would highly recommend that you take this workshop.
Start with your favorite accords in hand, drop the notes into your bottle and record the numbers for your final recipe. You will have a lovely time during the procedure and you will end up with your own perfume!
Altogether, this was an incredible experience. Prachi is very friendly, knowledgeable and answered every question we asked. You can visit one of her public workshops around the town or sign up for a personal one-on-one session. A private session with Je t’aime starts at $125 and includes three 10ml travel packs and a bottle of 75ml of your own perfume.
