Reethi Faru Resort
Reethi Faru, which means Beautiful Reef in local Dhivehi language, is located on a private island of Filaidhoo with stunning beaches, crystal clear waters and one of a kind coral reef. The resort goes as one of the more affordable Maldives vacations for honeymooners, young couples and even families with kids. Although those can be rather contrasting holidays, the unique thing about the resort is that the island is big enough to comfortably provide each type of vacationer a seemingly tailor-made experience.
Location
Reethi Faru is a four-star plus resort, developed on the remote island of Filaidhoo in the northern Raa atoll. It can be reached in two ways. You can arrive by a scenic 45-minute seaplane flight from the main Velana International Airport or a 20-minute domestic flight to Dharavandhoo domestic airport followed by a 30-minute speedboat ride. We decided to take a scenic seaplane ride and we’re grateful for the unforgettable views from the plane.
Resort
A part of the Lifestyle collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, Reethi Faru Resort is truly a tropical island paradise only reachable by boat or seaplane. The island measures 600 by 350 meters and offers 150 well-furnished garden, beach and water villas that blend perfectly with the natural beauty of the environment. The vibrant house reef and marine life lie just a step off the shore and besides that, you can also enjoy pristine beaches, lush vegetation, and blue lagoons.
Accommodation
There are 150 villas spread over the island. You can choose to stay in a garden, beach or water villa. First two nights we stayed at a beach villa and then we moved to a water villa.
Deluxe Beach Villa is spacious (it measures 64m²) and ideal for couples who want their privacy. It has a large room with a king-size bed, a small working area and a separate bathroom with bathtub and shower.
In front of the villa is a porch with sun loungers and you also have your own access to the beach.
Water Villa is a bit bigger than the beach villa. It measures 78m² and has a terrace with sun loungers and your own access to the sea. The villa is spacious and similar equipped as the beach villa. It has a large space with a king-size bed, a small working area, and living room. The bathroom has a bathtub and a shower. The most spectacular thing about the villa is the view of the ocean from your own terrace. It is simply breathtaking.
Dinning
Reethi Faru has numerous restaurants to cater to everybody’s tastes, while its poolside bar and beachfront bar invite guests to linger. To be exact there are five restaurants and four bars on the island, so you have plenty of choices where to spend your days. You can find everything from authentic Maldivian dishes, live grills, international cuisine, fresh seafood, different buffets to wood-fired pizza and tandoori ovens. You can pick your dining option and choose to dine under the stars, over the water or in casual elegance with palm tree views. Don’t forget mouth-watering cocktails, fresh fruit smoothies, international drinks and exquisite fine wines that goes perfect with your dinner.
Vakaru is the resorts main restaurant with a different theme each evening. Here you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a buffet style. The Haruge is the main bar of the resort where you can hide from the midday sun and drink a cocktail or two. Veyo Bar is set by the pool where you can listen to the music and relax with a smoothie in your hand. Dhiyavaru Restaurant is open 24 hours and it is located on the sea with picture-perfect views of the ocean. Reethi Grill is the spot not only for intimate dining but also for gatherings while the chefs cook before your eyes. Raalhu Café by the pool offers light meals and quick bites during the day. Sunset Bar lies on the southwest beach and it is perfect for the evening drink or a tropical cocktail before the dinner. Huvandhu Garden is a boutique restaurant that offers the most exclusive and romantic dining experience on the island. Serving just a few special tables each night, the restaurant offers a taste of Maldivian fine dining. Nala Bar is ideally located on the east end of the island to cater to hungry adventurers stepping ashore after kitesurfing or canoeing.
Activities
Along with a stunning white sand beach, a house reef just a few meters from shore, coconut palm groves and lush vegetation, the resort offers a wide range of recreational facilities, including diving, water sports, tennis, squash, badminton, a gym, an aerobics room as well as a spa to pamper your body and soul. There are plenty of exciting activities offered on the island. From windsurfing and canoeing to kitesurfing and jet skiing. You can also go out on a sailing trip to nearby islands, experience an authentic fishing adventure aboard the resort’s catamaran, go snorkeling or dive deeper underwater on a PADI course.
Spa
On the west side of the island lies the Coconut Spa where you can spoil yourself with different body wraps, oil massages or enjoy your time in different saunas. We did not have the chance to go on treatment but I am sure you will find something to pamper yourself.
Conclusion
Reethi Faru is a lovely resort in the Indian Ocean and it is the perfect hideaway for couples and families seeking relaxation, privacy and a bit of adventure. It is not a usual five-star Maldivian luxury resort but it sure is an affordable place that offers amazing beaches, nice villas, and great food as expected of a four-star plus resort.
