ROAD TRIP FROM MIAMI TO KEY WEST
If you have just a few days for your short vacation, then we would recommend a scenic road trip from Miami to Key West!
24 hour escape to Key West usually starts in Miami, which, by the way, is a must visit place if you are in good old Florida.
So, you should plan to stay here for a few days to discover the city and to feel the Latino vibe. The city has a lot to offer from great restaurants, incredible night clubs, amazing shopping opportunities and gorgeous beaches. So, spend a few days in Miami before heading to Key West.
For start you can rent a car at the airport, the prices are reasonable and the cars are in good shape. The roads to Key West are very good, so there is no need to be afraid to go on a 24 hour escape to Key West.
It definitely is a scenic journey to the famous Key West and along the way you can stop at some lovely places.
If you are planning to stay a day or two in Key West, be sure to visit the island during the week because the price over the weekend are much higher than during weekdays.
The road to Key West will lead you through many interesting places from national parks, to different animal sanctuaries. The first stop on the way is Key Largo, which is the longest of all islands and measures 48km. The most famous thing on the island is Joh Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, which is the first American underwater park, with amazing sea life.
Half way to Key West you can stop at Marathon where you can swim with dolphins at Dolphin Research Center or visit the Turtle Hospital.And finally… Key West! Key West is like a Caribbean fairy-tale with white houses and wooden paths that lead to white sandy beach. There are many guest houses, restaurants, bars and shops.
You definitely must try the famous Key lime pie, plan a visit to the house of Ernest Hemingway and watch the famous sunset at the promenade.
One more thing… Key West is very touristy, so try to walk through the streets early in the morning, to enjoy peace and quiet. And in the evening you can visit one of the many restaurants, they all have amazing views of the sea and enjoy the night over a cocktail and lovely Caribbean music.
