Top Things To See In Cappadocia
Fairy chimneys, rock formations, cave churches and underground cities are one of the top things to see in Cappadocia.
This was my first time visiting the beautiful part of Turkey called Cappadocia. Of course, I wanted to learn as much as I can about the land, the people, culture, and history in a short few days I was there. So, I carefully looked for the perfect company to go on a day tour with. And after some time spent on the internet, I found Cappadocian Guide, a tour company which had great reviews. Of course, I decided to book a trip with them and I was more than surprised. The whole trip was amazing!
With my friend, we had the whole trip to ourselves, because we wanted to take some beautiful photos while enjoying the historic places of Cappadocia. Our tour guide prepared the whole trip for us and he did a really good job. It was a beautiful day and it will always stay in our memories as one of the best trips ever.

They also offer airport transfers, different group and private tours like horseback riding, jeep safari, hot air balloon flights, Turkish dance night and of course many different sightseeing tours. We wanted to discover as much as we could on this trip so we organized our days in advance. When we arrived, we stayed at the amazing Kelebek Cave Hotel, the next day we went on a hot air balloon flight, had amazing organic breakfast in the valley, went to Goreme Open Air Museum and after that we wanted to explore other parts of Cappadocia. That is why we were very excited when the day finally arrived and our tour with Cappadocian Guide began.
Like us, you probably heard many things about Cappadocia. Fairy Chimneys, Love Valley, Underground Cities, unique Roman Mosaics… We wanted to experience it all! So, we took off around 10 am and made our first stop at the great viewing point from where we could saw Uchisar Castle. The views were spectacular. The sky was covered with dramatic clouds and the view of the whole valley was just breathtaking. Uchisar Castle is located at the highest point in the region. The top of the citadel provides a magnificent panorama of the surrounding area. Here we saw our first wish tree which was covered with evil eye glass ornaments that bring luck to the ones that hang them on the tree.
The second stop was a visit to the Underground City. These cities were build to act as a short-term refuge in times of danger. They are among the most interesting cultural assets of Cappadocia. The houses of Kaymakli Underground City are constructed around the underground city’s tunnels. The local people still use these tunnels to reach the underground rooms which are used as stables, cellars and food stores. Kaymakli Underground City is connected by underground tunnels with Derinkuyu Underground City in the south (8km), Mazi Underground City in the east (4km) and Ozluce Underground City in the West to support each other. Derinkuyu Underground City is built 8km South of Kaymakli Underground City. It opened to visitors in 1965, so far only 10% of the underground city can be visited. During restoration in 1980, some of the tunnels were made larger to offer more comfortable visit for tourists.
Our next stop was at a town called Avanos where we visited a pottery museum and we also tried the pottery making ourselves. We also had a delicious lunch in one of the authentic Turkish restaurants in the city. We continued our journey to see the famous Fairy Chimneys. The place was surrounded by incredible natural rock formations. The scene was just spectacular. The Fairy Chimneys have a conical-shaped body and a boulder on top of it. The cone is constructed from tufa and volcanic ash, while the cap is made of a harder, more resistant rock such as lahar or ignimbrite. The fairy chimneys which are symbols of Ürgüp are called holy spirit chimneys.
Our last stop was on the way back to Goreme, so we made a small stop to see the Imagination Valley. Imagination valley is famous for its rock formations that look like Camel, Hat of Napoleon, Virgen Mary holding Baby Christ, different animals and of course everything else you can imagine. After the visit, you will realize that imagination does not have any limits.
Conclusion
We had a lovely time with Cappadocian Guide and we would warmly recommend the company to everyone. If you have limited time in Cappadocia they will plan your trip accordingly to your wishes. as they offer full or half day tours suited to your needs. They will collect you from your hotel in Cappadocia by luxury van and afterward they will drop you off at your desired location.
Fairy chimneys, rock formations, cave churches, underground cities, hiking the valleys, tasting local wine and food… you name it and they will make sure to give you the best and most memorable tour ever.
