Explore Ubud Region in Bali
Ubud Region in Bali is one of the places that you cannot miss while you are on the island. We would highly recommend you to book a driver and to visit the region of Ubud with your private guide. They will customize the tour for you and you can choose which places you would like to visit along the way. There are so many tour guides in Bali that will take you around the island, so, it is quite hard to pick one of them. We have checked the TripAdvisor reviews and after good recommendations, we picked Buddy Bali Tours for our first adventure.
Buddy Bali Tour Company
Buddy Bali offers different tours around the island with professional tour guides, modern vehicles, and very reasonable prices. You can take the whole day tour, with your personal tour guide who will show you the best spots on the island for around $60-$80. They offer airport pick-up service, half day and full day tours. All tours can be customized so that you can visit the places that interest you and do not have to adjust to the whole group. We decided to choose Buddy Bali based on the TripAdvisor reviews and we were not disappointed.
They have more than 10 years of experience, speak fluent English, have brand new vehicles, no commission fee and are originally from Bali, which was important to us because we wanted to have the real Balinese experience.
Our tour started in Legian, so we had around an hour and a half with a car to the famous village of Ubud. Our tour guide picked us up at our hotel Pullman Bali Legian Nirwana and the first thing on our to-do list was the Barong and Kris Dance.
There are so many interesting things to see and do in Ubud. From the famous yoga retreats, healthy restaurants, shopping areas to different art villages with amazing products at unbeatable prices, Tegallalang rice terraces, Monkey forest and beautiful small villages. If it is your first time in Ubud don’t forget to visit the Ubud market and shop for some souvenirs.
Also in the center of the village, you will see the Royal Palace, which is also worth a visit. Just a few minutes away you will find the Monkey Forest. Do spend some time here and don’t forget to take care of your belongings. Monkeys love to steal from tourists 🙂 Take a break and go for a lunch or visit one of the coffee plantations. Try the Luwak coffee! And of course, do not miss a walk through the rice terraces with incredible views of the green fields.
#1 Craft Villages
On our way to Ubud, we passed many different villages. Each village is known for their art. We made a stop at the traditional Celuk village which is famous for the incredible gold and silver handicrafts. The products are available at very low prices and the choices are endless. Don’t forget to bargain 🙂 The second village was the Batuan village, which is famous for amazing handicrafts and painting artwork.
#2 Monkey Forest
The next stop was the Monkey Forest, which was the most exciting part of the trip. Monkey forest is in the heart of the Ubud Village and it is a small rainforest with many monkeys and tropical animals. If you are interested to learn more about this monkey habitat in Bali, you can check our Monkey Forest review.
#3 The Barong and Kris dance
The dance is a battle between good and evil spirits (between Barong and Rangda). Barong is a character in the mythology of Bali. It is a strange creature, half shaggy dog, half lion. He is also the king of the spirits and the enemy of Rangda. Rangda is the witch, who rules over the spirits of darkness. The Barong and Kris dance is just another storytelling, dance, narrating the fight between good and evil. This dance is the classic example of Balinese way of blending myth and history into one reality. The performance lasts around 45 min.
#4 Tegallalang Rice Terraces
The most beautiful part of the trip was definitely the Tegallalang rice terraces. This is a famous tourist attraction and the most amazing photos are shot here. You cannot miss this place because the scenery is just breathtaking. You can also choose to have a lunch break here and enjoy the amazing view of terraced rice fields in the background.
#5 Tegunungan Waterfall
This was our last stop on our full day trip to Ubud. The Tegenungan waterfall is one of the best waterfalls in Ubud village. It has clean water to swim in and amazing scenery in the background. It is also one of the few waterfalls in Bali that is not situated in the mountains.
Where To Stay
If you are looking for a beautiful accommodation surrounded by forest and nature, with breathtaking views, then you should consider staying at Ubud Region. We would recommend staying at one of the boutique hotels listed beyond. For example, Puri Sebali with spectacular views of the Tegallalang rice terraces, or if you wish to go a bit further into the jungle there is a beautiful health retreat called Bagus Jati, where you can enjoy peaceful time combined with healthy food. You will find private villas with amazing views of the jungle at the Puri Sebatu Resort just 20min from the village of Ubud.
Resorts & Villas

The resort is tucked away from hustle and bustle of the city. It is positioned in the middle of the jungle with incredible views of the mountains.
